How should I have done it to get the subs in the main movie m2ts file? When I reloaded the 43gb main movie m2ts file from the rip I checked the 'subtitles' tab of Handbrake and the only thing listed was 'Foreign Audio Search (Bitmap)'.with nothing else in the drop-down box available.įrom the little I know yet about BluRay rips etc, I thought that all the audio/subtitles etc are contained in m2ts files aren't they? The result was a 9.5gb mkv which looks gorgeous too - however - when I checked it out, I noticed there were no subs in the movie.

I've decided to do a back up of every disc that I get, but as I don't have a BR burner, I got AnyDVD HD and have ripped it to my HDD and ran the resulting m2ts file through Handbrake.

My PC is adjacent to my TV so I bought an LG BR drive and play the film out via HDMI from my GPU (Radeon HD 3850) - and the picture's fantastic! I will give it a try, will set it to use 3 cores and see.First post here - I've just bought my first BR player and my first disc just HAD to be Avatar.love that film. I tried it and with the ":threads=1" command I can control the CPU usage, =1 uses one core, =2 uses two cores and so on. Do not run any other application or use the computer for anything else. add the following text to the end of entry in box at bottom of advance settings without leaving a spaceĪlso, make sure that when encoding, only use your computer for the encoding and nothing else. Now with regards to the use of CPUs, you could try setting the program to encode with only one core by doing the following: Also, how much RAM is there in the system?

Make sure your cooler for CUP is not covered with dust and dust bunnies and if possible, remove cooler and replace the thermal paste in between processor and cooler. It would slow down drastically but not shut down. Regardless of how much processor usage there is, a computer wouldn't usually turn off when it is under heavy processor load. Hello, also you might want to check the cooling factor in your computer. why do you feel the need to only encode the video and add the rest later? It seems an unnecessary step, especially consider Handbrake is capable of "Foreign Audio Scan" to remove forced subtitles from the main subtitle track to their own track, (which is actually necessary for Matroska compliant playback) where MKVToolNix isn't.Ħ: If you find a Bu Ray where MediaInfo says anything other than 23.976 progressive, Handbrake may not be enough (especially with standard settings), post a sample on the forum and we'll see what's what.

I will do the whole movie and will use MKVToolNix to merge the looseless audio with the encoded mkv.Īny comments or suggestions will be highly appreciated.ġ: Turn off decomb, you don't need it and it can only degrade the quality of the video.Ģ: You might as well set "encoder tune" to "film" or "animation" depending on what movie you're encoding.ģ: If you don't know, slower encoder presets can lower the bitrate and improve lines slightlyĤ: If you don't know, lowering the RF (CRF) will increase the quality of the outputĥ: Handbrake has DTS-HD passthrough and TrueHD passthrough, plus it can copy subtitles from m2ts to MKV.
